FAQs

We answer your general questions and concerns.

Our team is constantly curating caregivers of various talents, experience and backgrounds, as well as employer referrals, so as to ensure the candidate pool remains robust.

And while there are other platforms offering similar services, they all rely on caregivers being able to self-manage their profiles and communication.

We noticed this gap and realize that there are some amazing caregivers who have many great talents that are valuable to families, but who may not be technically savvy enough to create and manage an online profile or may not have the English skills required to navigate the process.

We at Cultural Helper serve as the bridge to connect many of these caregivers to employers, those who may have previously only been available through word-of-mouth. We assist them in creating a profile and connecting it to their mobile phones, so that when they receive a message from an employer it comes directly to their phone in the form of a text message. The chances of creating a connection between family and caregiver becomes much greater in this way.

Currently, the majority of our candidates are located in the tri-state area (NY/NJ/CT), however many are open to relocate for the right position and there is an option to filter for such candidates.

For our Premier plan, we service clients throughout the US.

Cultural Helper works with caregivers and families of all ethnicities and backgrounds, although the majority of our curated network is South Asian and Southeast Asian.

Since the pandemic, families and caregivers alike have been taking additional precautions to prevent exposure to Covid-19: masking, social distancing, and increased hand-washing. We at Cultural Helper highly encourage vaccination of all individuals to ensure wellness for all parties, particularly children who may not yet be able to get vaccinated.

Further, there is an industry-wide labor shortage and the demand for live-in nannies especially has greatly increased post-covid. Rates have thus increased as well.

Unfortunately, we cannot realistically provide this guarantee due to the nature of this business.

However, we can assure you that we constantly curate and assist candidates to join our platform and will try our absolute best to place a domestic worker that meets your needs. Our professionalism and success with placements is the reason we are highly referred and why clients have been repeat customers for their staffing needs.

There are many factors that must be taken into account when assessing the timeline, such as location, pay rate, and job requirements to name a few.

Keep in mind that the more specific your needs are, the longer it may take to find household help. It is best to think of the qualities you are seeking in two categories: “must have” and “nice to have.” This will allow the ability to find a candidate that is a good fit within a reasonable amount of time.

This really depends on the job requirements. Aspects such as duties, hours worked, location, special skills required, and benefits offered are all taken into consideration.

Caregivers set their own rates and it’s important to pay market rates to ensure a long term and mutually beneficial relationship.

Domestic workers–like all other employees in today’s workforce–are at-will employees and are free to leave a position at any point, therefore we cannot provide any such guarantees.

However, for the Premier option, we do have practices in place to establish a good fit, ensure the workers feel well-compensated and make sure all aspects of the job have been discussed with a contract in place, which sets the stage for long term employment.

Additionally, we have a 90 day replacement guarantee with the Premier plan, which ensures that we will find you another employee at no additional cost should something unexpected occur.

Furthermore, any domestic workers that have proven to be unprofessional are instantly removed from our network and are no longer referred by Cultural Helper.

No. At Cultural Helper we never collect any fees from caregivers. Creating a profile on our platform is absolutely free. We also do not take a portion of your salary if we do a Premier placement. Once you have been hired, you are the employee of the family and are paid directly from them.

While Cultural Helper does not advise clients on tax matters and is not responsible for ensuring taxes are paid through these referrals, we can offer general information that can be beneficial to you.
